MEDICODENTAL RELATIONS

Abstract
1. Oral Tissues as Health Indicators
The Oral cavity and the structures contained in it are intimate part of the human organism. They are unusually vulnerable to disease, for they are in intimate relation with the external environment and are subject to mechanical, chemical and bacterial insults that are rarely, if ever, experienced by other body cavities. For this reason, the oral tissues are sensitive indicators of the general health status of the individual, and changes in these structures are frequently the first indication of subclinical disease processes in other organ systems.
2. The dentist and the physician
The dentist and the physician are both concerned primarily with the prevention, the diagnosis and the treatment of various diseases of the human body. The correct diagnosis and the treatment will frequently require the closest cooperation between the dentist and the physician.
